Rip Her to Shreds

About Rip Her to Shreds

An independent magazine on punk and new wave from 1974 to 1984, in English and German. Here is what we publish, what we are not, and what to do when we get something wrong.

What we publish

Guides to the styles, histories of the scenes, song and band pieces, lists, writing on the music press and fanzines, and practical help for record collectors. The timeline on the homepage ties it together.

The name, and who we are not

Rip Her to Shreds is the title of a song from 1976 on the first Blondie album. We use it as the name of a magazine about that era. We have no connection to Blondie, to Debbie Harry, to any other member of the band, or to any record company, and none of them has approved or endorsed this site.

This address used to host other websites, including a fan site. We are not connected to the earlier site or to the people who ran it, we are not its successor, and none of its content is reused here.

How we work

  • Facts we can back up. Dates, places, line-ups and chart positions come from published sources. What we cannot confirm, we leave out or mark as uncertain.
  • No gossip. We write about people's work and do not speculate about living people's private lives.
  • No lyrics. We describe songs in our own words and do not reproduce lyrics, not even single lines. Song and album titles are the only exception.
  • No cover art or band photos. The look of this magazine is made entirely with type and paper colours.
  • Opinions are labelled by context. Lists are our judgement. Vinyl guides name criteria and do not contain invented test results.

How the site is funded

Rip Her to Shreds is a commercial publication. At the moment it carries no advertising and no partner links. If that changes, advertising and partner links will be marked as such, and this page and the privacy notice will say so.

Who writes this

The site is written and edited by a small editorial team. We do not attach personal bylines or invented credentials to the pages. Editorial responsibility sits with the operator named in the imprint.
